Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger sold Instagram for a whopping 1 billion Dollars in 2012.
Back then it was used by 30 million people but under Facebook’s umbrella, it has grown to reach over a billion people.
According to Bloomberg the two were leaving after growing tensions over Mark Zuckerberg’s increasing involvement in the day-to-day running of Instagram.Instagram is one of Facebook’s most successful acquisitions in its history.
According to Systrom, 34 and Krieger, 32 tension had mounted this year between Instagram and Facebook’s leadership regarding Instagram’s autonomy.
Facebook had agreed to let it run independently as part of the acquisition deal but Facebook decided to change its mind this year.
The departure follows fellow Facebook acquisition WhatsApp’s founders leaving under much more grim circumstances. Brian Acton cited Facebook privacy concerns amongst reasons for his departure, tweeting “Delete Facebook” amidst one of its recent scandals.
