Instagram has decided remove fake likes,follows and comments from their platform.The photo sharing app noted that the third party accounts are exploiting followers for financial gain exchanging money for likes and fake comments.
Instagram has already started the process by using built machine learning tools to help detect and remove fake popularity boosters.Accounts that use third-party apps to get likes will receive a message notifying them that they have been removed from their posts and account. Users will then have to change their password to secure their account.
Instagram’s parent company Facebook faced criticism in the past due to the presence of trolls, fake news and misinformation on their platform.Twitter took action this year and locked accounts with suspicious activity.Instagram however has been scrutinized for not doing enough to stop third-party apps from making money off their platform.The app was purchased by Facebook for $1 billion in 2012. It now has more than 1 billion monthly active users.
