Singer and Queen Of Soul Aretha Louis Franklin has passed away at 76 years of age. Her health was failing due to pancreatic cancer and the family shared that she was in hospice care a few days before she passed away.
The singer cancelled a handful of concerts last year raising eyebrows.Unknown to the public she took a break to focus on her health.Most people thought she was finally retiring.Celebrities such as Missy Elliot and Mariah Carey took to social media to send her well wishes.
The singer was the first woman to be inducted into the rocknroll hall of fame.She won several Soul Train Awards,18 Grammy Awards and a VH1 Diva Award.The singer also had a street named after her in Detroit.She was given the presidential medal of freedom by president George Bush and performed in Obama’s 2009 inauguration ceremony.
The singer took the world by storm in 1961 when she released her first single’Wont be long’ when she was only 18 years old.She recorded her first song when she was only 14 years of age.Her father was a well known pastor and her mother a singer and pianist.She leaves behind four sons.
